It has the distinction of being the first reported form of occupational cancer, and was initially identified by Percivall Pott in 1775.[1] It was initially noticed as being prevalent amongst chimney sweeps.

He was awarded the 1966 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine for discovering in 1941 thathormones could be used to control the spread of some cancers.[1] This was the first discovery that showed that cancer could be controlled by chemicals.
